Paul in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam!
Paul's work "Daniel" will be exhibited at the Rijksmuseum from June 15 to September 19. It is an group exhibition, The displayed works are selected from almost 9000 inscriptions from 83 countries.
With the inscription a motivation was asked, this is what Paul wrote:
Rembrandt, above all the Master of light and shadow. Every attempt to match him seems doomed to fail. But trying doesn't hurt. In my work "Daniel" the light comes from below, perhaps from a campfire? The Master too often let light come from a special angle. I tried to use Rembrandtian light and dark and to apply a lot of contrast. I think the light in the prominent eye is particularly successful. "Daniel" is a fragile portrait of a young person. The fragility is enhanced by the coarseness of the list of raw wood.
